Flight to Halifax

Fri.9th Oct.2009 - We were at JFK with plenty of time to spare before our 7pm flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotia means 'New Scotland' in Latin as David tells me, Canada. What better place for a family named 'McClarty' to land.

After checking in and walking a very long way to our gate – that place is absolutely huge! We were able to track down some decent food for once. I can still taste the pumpkin soup – it was delicious and the kids even had a piece of fruit.

We arranged just in a nick of time for our missing (now found) pram and car seat to be put on our flight to Halifax, thanks once again to the lovely lady Barbara – God Bless you Barbara, Amen.

The aeroplane from NYC to Halifax was tiny - 2 seats one on other side of the aisle. We thought it was a 3 hour flight, so I had a few moments of anxiety when after 1 ½ hours I went to the toilet to change Eve’s nappy and a light came on saying ‘Go back to your seat’. I just got back in time and buckled up for a rapid descent – thinking the plane may be crashing as we were only half way to Halifax. However, all was well. The shorter flight was a nice surprise!

We went through customs having to show all of our required documents from the all important blue folder to satisfy them that we weren’t going to work here or stay illegally. Finally we were on the pavement waiting for our complimentary bus to our hotel ‘Hilton Garden Inn’ same as in New York.

This was the first time we felt cold and everyone pulled out their warm jackets which justified carrying those damn backpacks half way around the world! The hotel was beautiful, the rooms were much bigger than the ones in NYC. We ate dinner in the restaurant at 11:40pm again we were all hungry and it tasted good. Unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy our lovely rooms for very long we had to get up early and catch the only bus going to our final destination. Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
