The Cold Snap!

well, we have had a cold snap! It started with a 2 day blizzard, the temperature has been hovering around -20 degrees Celsius , -30 with wind chill. The coldest we've seen yet and hopefully the coldest we will see. Basically, It was too cold to go outside even with all of your gear on for any longer than about 10 minutes. The cold just bites through your clothing as if it has teeth. It was too cold to go skiing on Friday . However, the temperature is slowly going up, tomorrow (Monday) is set to be 0 degrees, I'm amazed that there can be a difference of 20 degrees in as little as one day. I find anything above -10 is quite tolerable.

I still can't understand why most people around here don't have a garage. As is the case with our rental house. In these freezing conditions they just let the cars sit around and get engulfed in snow.

Mary-rose had a couple of exciting things happen to her this week. Firstly, she lost a tooth and luckily the Canadian Tooth Fairy knew she was here. Secondly, she won the colouring- in competition at the swimming pool and won a swim pack which was very exciting for her. She beat about 70 other hopefuls.

On the way home from church today we stopped off at an open air public ice skating rink. Naomi and Mary-rose are skating well. Can't say so for the rest of us though, I think I'll stick with skiing.

Tonight is 'Super Bowl' the Grid Iron football finals, it is a big thing here. Vincent, along with other Canadian men have been invited to go watch it at a friends house. He said he would bring along an Aussie desert. Which of course means 'Pavlova'. Only one problem, neither, Vincent, or I have ever made a Pavlova before! So, following directions off the internet (TG for the internet) we manage to whip something up that kind of resembled a Pav and for the first time I tasted Kiwi fruit. Funny, I had to come all the way to Canada to learn how to make Pavlova and taste Kiwi fruit. I really liked the Kiwi fruit - tangy :)

Everyone's gone crazy over the Olympics here. They aren't anywhere near us though, they are on the other side of the country.

This week we are looking forward to the 'Jack Frost Children's Winter Festival' It starts on Fri. and goes all weekend. It includes everything good about winter. No doubt you'll read all about it in next weeks blog.
